A team leader requires having many qualities to lead his team to success. Some of the qualities are integrity, punctuality, open-mindedness, and creativity. When the team gets new members, the first thing the team leader needs to do is create a bond with them and welcome them to the team. Working with new people can be quite challenging at first. Successful entrepreneurs like Bardya Ziaian show that a leader must be flexible so that he can adapt to the methods best suited for every member of the team.

Ways to Lead New Team Members

1. GET TO KNOW THEM AT A PERSONAL LEVEL

New members can have a hard time adjusting to the team, and it can affect their work performance. If the team leader gets them to open up at a personal level, they will feel more comfortable and can deliver results up to their potential. Contact them outside of office life and ask them about their hobbies and interests.

2. BE ACCESSIBLE TO THEM

It can take a while before a new member gets comfortable with his peers. But he can always look up to the leader to help him with his work and even if there is something making it uncomfortable. Bardya Ziaian ensures that he is always available for his team. Leaders have to be accessible at all times.

3. CREATE A HEALTHY WORK ENVIRONMENT

It is the responsibility of the manager to create and maintain a healthy work environment in the office. He can do it by offering rest times, setting up fun activities, giving incentives, and many more. Some are even known to organize game nights for the whole team. Healthy environment keeps work from becoming a burden. Positive result is that all the team members are productive.

4. SET GOALS

One thing that bothers new members of the team is what they are supposed to do, and the role of the team leader to delegate tasks and instruct properly. He sets up goals for the new members and helps them achieve the goals. Being new on the team, they can feel out of sync with the team sometimes, and the leader must take their shortcomings and strengths to set goals.

3. SCHEDULE ONE-ON-ONE MEETINGS

The team leader should have one-on-one meetings to make the new members comfortable. He can ask them for feedback to know if there is anything bothering them in the office. Successful leaders like Michael Gass suggest asking for their suggestions on how they think the team can boost its performance. It will allow them to feel valued and appreciated. Also, help them with their confidence and build a relationship with trust and respect.

Summary

Managing new members in a team can be challenging for the leader. However, if he treats them with respect and shows them that he is there to help, things can get easier. The productivity of the team can be boosted. Leader drives the team and he/she should understand that every member has differences and the leader must genuinely care for them.
